• Description

    Cedar of Lebanon ssp stenocoma

This subspecies of Cedrus libani features a distinct, narrowly pyramidal crown in comparison with the "typical" C. libani ssp. libani. Less widely distributed than the latter, ssp. stenocoma is limited to the Taurus Mountains of Turkey and offers comparatively greater cold hardiness. Overall, the ornamental effect of stenocoma is that of a more rigidly branched specimen with shorter light green needles. Maturing at 40-50’ tall, ssp. stenocoma earned its Latin epithet in reference to the "narrow hair" found exclusively on the stems of those trees occurring in southwestern Turkey. Hardy to Zone 5.
