Ferny Creek is a completely prostrate (spreading, flat-growing) selection of Caucasian spruce with layered branching and short, shiny, very dark-green needles. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 12 inches (30 cm) tall and 3 feet (90 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of 3 to 4 inches (7.5 - 10 cm), significantly more outward than up.
