    Broadleaf evergreen shrub, upright growing, 4 ft (1.2 m) in 10 years. Leaves narrowly obovate, apiculate apex, rounded base, 12 cm long, twisted downward, dark green, retained 3 years. Flower widely funnel-campanulate, 10 cm across, vivid purplish-red (some say hard-pink), held in ball-shaped clusters of 10 flowers.
