Hondai Hiba
-

Description
A slow growing, pyramidal conifer with a fanned needle arrangement and silver-white markings below. ’Hondai’ is a denser form of Thujopsis with larger cones. Known to reach 100’ in its’ native habitat of Japan, a more reasonable size of 30’-50’ can be expected in the landscape. A great evergreen that resembles Thuja plicata, ’Hondai’ makes a wonderful specimen, not quite as useful for screening due to the slower growth rate unless one is willing to wait but has a similar habit to that of Thuja ’Green Giant’. An interesting factoid, Thujopsis is tolerant of light shade giving the owner more flexibility in siting and planting. Hardy to Zone 5
