A deciduous tree, 20-30 ft (6-9 cm), erect, open branching but dense, asymmetric growth habit. Stout thorns, 5 cm long. Leaves simple, about 5-10 cm long, alternate, serrated, but often entire and undulate from middle to base, lustrous dark green above, pubescent below. Flowers white, 1.5 cm wide. Fruit (ca. 2 cm diam.) brick red to orange-red speckled with brown, persists into winter.
