Prairie Glen

Description
Very Pinus flexilis in appearance, ’Prairie Giant’ could almost pass for a ’Vanderwolfs’ Pyramid’, just with longer needles. A stunning blue-green specimen, ’Prairie Giant’ has a conical crown when young, becoming more broad spreading and open with age. It’s stout branching is softened by the billowing soft blue-green needles that are typical of Pinus wallichiana. Originating at the Morton Arboretum near Chicago, ’Prairie Giant’ has proven to be very hardy in the Midwest. ’Prairie Giant’ prefers full sun in well-drained soil. Grows 12’ x 7’ in 10 years, eventually becoming quite the specimen. Hardy to -20 degrees. Zone 5
